Dongguan Love Song: My Story with a Beautiful Boss

In 2005, 21-year-old Li Qiang boarded a green train heading south with a high school diploma and plenty of muscle. At a factory called Zhenhua Electronics in Chang’an Town, Dongguan, he became the most ordinary screw assembler on the production line. He thought his life would be one long cycle of drudgery and sweat, but he never expected his coworkers’ joking nickname for him, “Factory Heartthrob,” to catch the attention of the factory’s most mysterious and alluring woman: its owner, Lin Ruoxi. She didn’t promote him straight to an office job. Instead, she transferred him to lead the factory’s most reviled “problem workshop.” Everyone was waiting for this “pretty boy” to make a fool of himself, and Li Qiang was just as determined: I’m not living off a woman! But gradually, he realized that the woman who had caused him endless trouble always seemed to watch his every move from the shadows, her eyes burning with fire. A battle that began in the workshop, but would engulf desire, dignity, and the fate of the entire electronics factory, was quietly taking shape.
