For three whole years, Lin Yue managed to pin every love letter written to him on someone else.
Starting in his first year of high school, he found a bottle of milk and an anonymous note in his desk every day. He was sure his deskmate, Zhou Ye, had left them there. After all, Zhou Ye was always the first to arrive in class. When he cautiously asked about it, Zhou Ye casually replied, "Well, it wasn't me." She neither admitted nor denied it. Lin Yue took that as shyness and secretly decided to keep his distance so she wouldn't get the wrong idea. He had no idea that the one who took the long way to the convenience store every day was his childhood friend, Shen Zhi.
Later, Zhou Ye tucked a confession letter into his physics workbook. When the physics teacher collected the assignments, the letter fell out and was picked up by Su Wanwan, a transfer student passing by. From a distance, Lin Yue saw Su Wanwan holding the letter with a bright red face and reached an absurd conclusion: it was a love letter from Su Wanwan to Zhou Ye. As for the sketchbook Su Wanwan had bound and slipped into his desk, containing ninety-nine portraits of his profile, he was convinced it was Shen Zhi trying to set the two of them up, because the handwriting on the first page looked so much like hers.
He mistook all three girls' secret crushes for someone else's. At one point, he even thought the milk left for him every day came from Xu Niannian, the top student and school beauty, because the neat handwriting "obviously looked like a top student's work."
This ever more tangled chain of mistaken identities continued throughout all three years of high school.
Then, on the day the college entrance exams ended, he cleared out his desk and found three things at the very back of the drawer: an unsigned letter, a sheet of workbook paper folded into a square, and a sketchbook.
Alone in the empty classroom, he opened them.
All three letters said the same thing
