By all appearances, he's a bandit chief who has claimed a mountain stronghold and given the Japanese army endless headaches. After Dai Li of the Military Statistics Bureau takes an interest in him, he is recruited and appointed commander of an “Anti-Japanese Mobile Unit” or an officer tasked with overseeing a ragtag army.
