The County Princess Is Rich Enough to Rival a Nation. What's Wrong with Pursuing the Regent?

Everyone in the capital knows that Sheng Mingjiao, the Zhaohua Commandery Princess, is hopelessly lovesick. To win the heart of Xiao Yan, the cold and ruthless regent, she would gladly empty the vaults of her father, the richest man south of the Yangtze.

Annoyed by the rooster next door to the prince's manor? She spends a hundred thousand taels of gold to buy and flatten the residence of a court minister, just so she can fill the prince's courtyard with ink orchids!

Shen Ruyi, the Grand Preceptor's daughter, gets dragged into the mess and follows her around every day, crying in despair, “Sheng Mingjiao, why do you have to drag me into trouble every time you chase a man?”

The Great Chu's god of war, Xiao Yan, watches coldly from the sidelines and tosses out just four words: “Shameless. Get lost.”

Fine, I'll get lost! Sheng Mingjiao gives up completely and refuses to play along anymore. She turns around and holds a grand matchmaking banquet at the Princess Royal's residence, happily watching handsome young gentlemen from all over the capital show off their calculating skills and figures.

But just as she is about to accept a token of love from the top scorer in the palace examinations, the powerful regent completely loses his cool. He rides alone back to the capital and slams the tiger tally for his three hundred thousand Black Armor Guards, along with everything he owns, onto her table. Then he drops to one knee and begs her to take him back:

“Jiaojiao, I'll put myself up as collateral. You can only choose me for the rest of your life.”

Shen Ruyi stares in disbelief from the side. “Heavens! The aloof beauty has turned into a live-in son-in-law begging to be taken!”
