A Medical Resident on the Night Shift: Not One Department Chief Dares to Sleep

Haicheng First Hospital has an unwritten, terrifying rule.

During the day, you can get by without knowing Lu Yan, the emergency department resident.

At night, if he calls, you’d better answer within one second!

Lu Yan was just a low-ranking medical student who got saddled with everyone else’s blame.

That is, until he was bound to the Medical Life and Death Ledger System and punished with a string of night shifts.

The System can not only count down a patient’s remaining lifespan with pinpoint accuracy, but also expose every fatal misdiagnosis made by the outpatient experts during the day!

“The chief of cardiac surgery missed a tiny aortic dissection this morning. The patient has 20 minutes left!”

“The respiratory medicine guru failed to spot a concealed pulmonary embolism. The patient has 15 minutes left!”

To save lives, Lu Yan becomes the King of Hell after dark.

He slaps critical-condition notices down in front of department chiefs and delivers his final ultimatum.

“Director Wang, you missed it this morning, and now the patient’s about to die in the ER!”

“Get to Operating Room Three in ten minutes, or you can look forward to having your license revoked tomorrow!”

At first, the medical authorities are furious and swear they’ll get the arrogant brat fired.

But when Lu Yan backs up his warnings with god-tier medical skills and proves their misdiagnoses exactly right, the hospital’s top doctors break into a cold sweat.

From then on, whenever Lu Yan works the night shift, every department chief has to sleep in surgical scrubs, with emergency heart pills close at hand.

At two in the morning, Lu Yan sends a single period to the department chiefs’ group chat.

The chief of cardiac surgery replies at once: “Don’t give them my ID number! I’m already in the elevator!”
