I Returned Home to Guard the Old House, Only to Find a Hidden Pavilion Beneath It

Shen Muzhi, a graduate student specializing in the restoration of ancient architecture, discovers that his advisor is involved in a scheme to counterfeit cultural relics. Instead, he is framed, branded a fraudster, and expelled from his research institute. His fiancée turns against him at the last moment and marries his advisor’s son. Then he is told to pay 800,000 yuan in “damages.”

With nowhere else to turn, he returns home in disgrace to Qingwu Village and the dilapidated old house his grandfather left him.

On his deathbed, his grandfather grips his hand and says, “Protect the old house. There’s something beneath it...”

Shen thinks it is just the rambling of an old man.

Until one night, he falls into the cellar beneath the old house, and the sight before him leaves him stunned.

A magnificent pavilion lies hidden underground!

Inside, a spiritual spring bubbles and the air is filled with the fragrance of medicinal herbs. The walls are engraved with lost crafts dating back a thousand years, and the lingering souls of master artisans from generations past await someone destined to awaken them.

Restore an antique, and you can awaken an artisan’s remnant soul and inherit an unparalleled craft.

Medicine, woodworking, stone carving, casting, farming, martial arts... The finest craftsmanship of five thousand years is all here.

From then on, Shen Muzhi’s life is transformed.

The medicinal herbs he grows have astonishing effects, drawing merchants who line up to buy them;

The antiques he restores amaze the world, bringing national-treasure-level masters to his door;

The workshop he builds leads the entire village to prosperity, turning a once-poor mountain village into a renowned cultural town.

And the people who once framed him will eventually understand:

The artisan’s spirit never dies; it endures for a thousand generations.

Those who once trampled him will sooner or later have to look up at him.
