Since Baoqiang couldn’t make it, Deng Chao recommended Gu Cheng as a last-minute replacement.

But as the show went on, the production crew realized they were the ones who needed rescuing most.

The first game was guessing memory spring pancakes.

Chen He took one bite of the Dongpo pork, and Gu Cheng went flying off his chair and into the water.

In the second round, Chen He reached for the Dongpo pork again, and Gu Cheng was instantly overcome with despair.

“Brother He, are you here to answer questions, or to hold my water burial?”

The whole studio burst out laughing.

The audience did too.

From then on, Gu Cheng’s variety show career spiraled completely out of control.

On Keep Running, he was the undisputed attention hog of the brothers’ team.

On Go Fighting!, he was the sly one the Men’s Gang couldn’t guard against.

On Back to Field, he was the most restless source of joy at Mushroom House.

He had no System.

No absurd cheat ability, either.

But he did have a mouth that could make the director laugh in exasperation, a knack for exploiting the rules, and increasingly outrageous stamina.

When female stars teamed up with him for missions, they started out determined to win.

But three minutes later…

“Gu Cheng! Can you stop making me laugh?”

“Oh no, I’ve lost control of my expression!”

“Director, can we cut this bit? This is so embarrassing!”

Gu Cheng looked completely innocent.

“I really am taking the show seriously.”

Netizens flooded the comments:

“You take the show seriously, and the production crew seriously falls apart!”

“Chinese variety shows can’t do without Gu Cheng!”

“If this man doesn’t become famous, it’s an outrage!”

Later, variety shows across the country all invited him to appear.

Looking at his packed schedule, Gu Cheng fell into deep thought:

“So… I’ve made it big?”
