1959: Stockpiling Supplies on Nanluoguxiang to Support My Family

In the bitter winter of 1959, in the capital. Xue Wei woke from a drunken stupor to find himself a street thug in Nanluoguxiang, with a wife and daughter who were gaunt and hollow-eyed with despair. Fortunately, he had activated a "stockpiling panel" that refreshed each day with fine grain, meat, coal, cloth, and even scarce Western medicine and building materials. But he couldn't afford to let anyone know he had them. In this era, ration coupons and the source of your goods mattered more than the goods themselves.

Starting with backbreaking labor, he gradually built up a legitimate identity and made up for the five years he'd failed his wife and daughter. He navigated the gaps in people's knowledge and maneuvered through webs of personal connections, turning a rotten start into a home filled with lamplight and a city full of hope.

Dawn was nearly here.
