When Jiang Suining opened her eyes, she had become a peasant girl on the verge of starvation during a famine in Henan, in a parallel Republican-era world.

Her father was lame, her mother was sick, her younger siblings were as thin as kittens, and she now had a baby named Xiaoman in her arms, with no idea where the child had come from.

Drought and locusts lay ahead; behind them were landlords demanding rent, bandits blocking the roads, and rogue soldiers stealing food. Her family was on the brink of falling apart.

Fortunately, she now had a “One-Acre Realm Granary” with her.

It was small and couldn’t turn into mountains of gold and silver. All it could do was keep things fresh, store belongings, grow a little grain, and produce three bowls of spiritual spring water a day.

But in troubled times, a handful of seeds meant life, a sack of grain meant a home, and a mouthful of water meant survival.

With the help of her space, Jiang Suining led her family to flee the famine and farm the land. She took in orphans, reclaimed wasteland and established a grain cooperative, and fought bullies, unscrupulous merchants, and traitors.

Others fled famine just to survive. She fled famine and took the opportunity to empty a landlord’s hidden grain store, giving the people a chance to live.

Later, Japanese invaders trampled into the land. Villages fell and supply routes were cut off.

By day, Jiang Suining was a village girl who knew how to farm and care for children. By night, she became the “Lady of the Realm Granary,” a figure who gave the Japanese a headache behind enemy lines.

She hid grain, delivered medicine, protected civilians, rescued the wounded, and cut off enemy supplies, leading a group of women, children, and elderly people to cultivate a path to survival amid the chaos.

The first time Lu Yanzhou saw her, she was carrying half a sack of grain and leading three children by the hand, her eyes bright as fire.

Only later did he realize that this seemingly fragile young woman carried both her family and the land in her heart.
