The 1970s: Taming My Husband With Red Stickers

In the 1970s, Zhao Qiulin transmigrates into the role of a cold-faced battalion commander's wife. Everyone in the compound says Lu Zheng is the kind of man who “doesn't speak when he comes home and doesn't look back when he leaves.”

She doesn't argue or make a scene. She does just one thing: whenever he does something right, she leaves a little red flower where he won't see it.

From announcing himself when he comes home to letting her know when he goes out, from a cup of warm water by the stove to a note tucked into his inner pocket, all thirty-seven military wives in the compound follow her example. She starts a mutual-aid club, writes down thirty-seven principles, and teaches the wives to “say when you're coming back, pour the water, and wait for him.”

Then her reputation reaches division headquarters, and trouble begins.

Complaints, ideological pressure, and a smear campaign from the higher-ups: attacked on three fronts, Qiulin is investigated.

Lu Zheng stands before the investigation team and pulls the repeatedly folded note from his inner pocket. “My wife wrote this. I stand by it.”

The most detailed military-marriage story of the era. With little red flowers, she trains the best-behaved battalion commander in the whole compound.
