The Tang Dynasty Scout

The Youyi was an intelligence and command System established in frontier regions and military governors’ territories during the early Tang dynasty. It was used for patrols, reconnaissance, capture, and other tasks, much like a scout unit. The Youyi Commissioner commanded this intelligence force and reported directly to a military governor or garrison commander. This story follows Li Zhenxi, a Youyi scout of the Anxi Protectorate General’s Office during the Kaiyuan era, as he grows through his struggles against the Türgesh, Tibetans, and other foes.
