Eerie Folk Customs: I Clear the Yin-Yang Realm with My Paper-Crafting Skills

If a woman in red knocks on your door in the middle of the night, don't open it.

If you see a chipped bowl at a crossroads, don't kick it.

My name is Chen Jiu. I'm a paper effigy maker on Jiuqu Street.

Other people make paper offerings to fool the living. I make them to fool the dead.

Miss Bai tossed me a million and asked me to save her grandfather. I looked at the thing clinging to her shoulder behind her, drooling at me, and ground my cigarette butt into the floor.

“It's going to cost you extra.”

The dead make the rules, but I, Chen Jiu, specialize in breaking them.
