High Martial: Only After I Died Did the Whole City Learn I Was a Night Watchman

On the day Qi Jin was executed, the whole city cursed him. They called him a deserter, a traitor, and the criminal responsible for the deaths of three thousand warriors. His former comrades testified against him, his own sister publicly disowned him, and even the city he had guarded for ten years carved his name onto a monument of shame. Before the execution, Qi Jin offered no explanation. He only gazed at the city lights and said: “Don’t go to sleep at midnight tonight.” That night, the entire city fell into nightmares. Only then did everyone see the truth: The monsters beyond the city walls had never been the greatest calamity. The true disaster lurked in everyone’s dreams. They had been able to sleep soundly every night not because the walls were high or the warriors were strong, but because Qi Jin alone had guarded the gates to everyone’s dreams, dying nine hundred and ninety-nine times. But by the time the whole city began to regret its actions, Qi Jin was already dead. After midnight, a voice came from the depths of the nightmare: “The Night Watcher is dead.” “Now, the Night Calamity will judge the mortal world.”
