You Were Supposed to Guard the Veterans' Home, So Why Did You Turn Handong's Political Scene Upside Down?

Lin Haoran was reassigned by the executive deputy county magistrate to an abandoned veterans' home, where he became a gatekeeper tasked with looking after a senile, blind old man.

His fiancée brought the county magistrate's secretary to publicly break off their engagement. She tossed her ring into the basin of dirty water Lin had poured out, then took a photo and posted it in the government affairs group to mock him without restraint.

Everyone thought he would rot to death in a stinking ditch, until the bulldozers of a forced-demolition team roared into the compound and brutally knocked down the blind old man who pestered Lin Haoran every day for braised pork.

With his last breath, the old man pulled out a rusted brass whistle and a string of top-secret phone numbers.
