The King of Hell Is in Tears: My Beloved Is Trapped in the Mortal Realm

[King of Hell × short-lived mortal] [He changes your fate in the human world] [They protect each other] [Sweet and bittersweet, spanning past and present lives]

I was born with a short life. My family used a longevity lock, gold bracelets, and copper anklets to keep me in the human world for twenty-three whole years.

They didn’t know that in the underworld, a King of Hell was waiting for his beloved to return after her tribulation, nearly driven mad by the wait.

She was supposed to return after three years, but the love of her mortal family kept her in the human world year after year.

Then one day, when my fever wouldn’t break, I heard a voice by my ear, gritting its teeth in anger:

“How much longer are you going to stay in the human world? I’ve been waiting for you down below for a full twenty years.”

Burning with fever and barely conscious, I clutched his sleeve and whispered, “Just wait a little longer… My parents can’t bear to let me go.”

He was silent for a long time. At last, he smiled through reddened eyes.

“All right. Then I’ll wait with you.”

Only later did I learn that he hadn’t come to take me away.

He had come to change my fate.

To shield me from calamity, to fight Heaven for my life, and to turn the borrowed years I had left into a life that would last until our hair turned white.
