Synopsis of "A Dream of Wind and Rain"
Shanghai, 1937. Agent Zhang Haisheng returns from Nanjing with a list of underground Red agents, only to discover that his immediate superior, Xu Zhiyuan, has defected to the enemy. During an assassination attempt, he is rescued by Zhuang Qimeng, the owner of a bookstore. Gentle on the surface, Zhuang Qimeng is in fact a key Red contact in Shanghai. From mutual suspicion to trust, the two struggle amid encircling Japanese and puppet-government agents to move a list that holds countless lives in the balance.
Meanwhile, Military Statistics Bureau agent Han Zheyi is ordered to approach Xu Yunzheng, a legendary figure who once dominated the era but now lives quietly among ordinary people. Xu Yunzheng holds the secret to the treasure left behind by Yuan Shikai, making him the focus of a struggle among all sides. The Japanese, the Military Statistics Bureau, and the Reds clash in Shanghai, a city under siege.

The interpreter Jin’s brutality, Yamamoto Masao’s sinister nature, Okamoto Nobuzawa’s inscrutability… Every character fights to survive in the mire of the times.
