The Spy's Innkeeper: A Double-Sided Warlord

In 1940, Shanghai was battered by the storm of war, while the espionage game was a maze of shifting schemes.

Everyone looked down on Chen Fan, a lowly errand boy in the General Affairs Department of the Juntong.

Cowardly, timid, and miserly, he meekly bowed to everyone. In the eyes of agents, collaborators, and Japanese invaders, he was a worthless nobody they could order around and trample at will, the most unremarkable loser in Shanghai’s espionage world.

But no one knew that this seemingly helpless servant was a top-tier Red double agent, buried deeper than anyone and laying plans far ahead!

He carried a blood feud and possessed exceptional talent for espionage: a photographic memory, an uncanny ability to read people, and the skill to predict life-or-death moves!

From the start, he used the enemy’s blind spot to keep a low profile and conceal his edge!

He threaded his way through the deadly standoff between the Juntong, No. 76, and the Tokko, wearing a different mask for every faction in a world at war.

Li Shi'an prided himself on being a shrewd old fox who had accounted for every possibility, only for Chen Fan to turn the tables, topple his faction, and ruin his reputation!

The cunning and suspicious Japanese officers laid a dragnet, but Chen Fan toyed with them and dismantled their entire scheme!

Ming Lou, a triple agent who moved freely through Shanghai, tested him at every turn, then ultimately joined forces with him to contend for the fate of the world!

A cast of master actors, layers of disguises, schemes within schemes: the ultimate game of espionage!

From the humblest of positions, he shifted the most high-stakes espionage game!

A nobody at the bottom of the ladder, moving the pieces on Shanghai’s board and cutting through the chaos of Republican China with his double identity!

From a Juntong errand boy to a top power stirring up espionage operations at home and abroad;

From an orphaned, nameless boy to a mighty guardian dragon protecting the land for thousands of miles!
