Siheyuan: A Powerful Background That Commands Respect from the Start

In the mid-1950s, Lin Zheng, a battle-hardened warrior who had fought on the border, was wounded and forced to retire from military service. He returned to his hometown with the backing of a prestigious family and moved into the famous Hongxing Compound in Yancheng.

He had seen countless battles and earned outstanding meritorious service. His family elders held positions of power, and their connections ran deep, earning them the respect of every local circle. With such formidable backing, few dared to cross him.

As soon as he moved into the compound, idle neighbors deliberately picked fights and made things difficult for him. Older women tried to guilt-trip him for no reason, while the elders of two families schemed at every turn, always looking to take advantage.

Lin Zheng was upright and uncompromising, and he never indulged selfish bullies. He argued his case on the spot and asserted his authority, immediately putting the whole compound in its place. From then on, no one there dared to provoke him or plot against him.

After transferring to a local government post, he found himself surrounded by old hands who secretly formed cliques, deliberately excluded him, and set traps to frame him, determined to keep him down.

With exceptional resolve and far-reaching vision, Lin Zheng foiled their schemes one by one, rooted out corruption, and devoted himself to serving the people. He rose steadily from an ordinary post, advancing step by step.

In an era of scarce supplies, he coordinated the distribution of resources and safeguarded the people’s livelihoods. As the times changed, he seized opportunities for development and promoted local progress, calmly resolving challenges involving resettlement, business reform, and urban renewal.

The petty schemers around him suffered the consequences of their own actions, and the snobbish neighbors in the compound finally got what they deserved. After decades of dedicated work in local government, he stayed true to his principles and worked for the people’s welfare, rising steadily to the very top and writing an inspiring classic of his era.
