Seeking Fate Through Cause and Effect

Jiang Yu'an, the Dao Lord of Karma from the cultivation world, and Su Nianwan, the Saintess of Matrimony, were struck by Heaven's backlash as they crossed the tribulation to ascend. They fell together into a rift in space and time, transmigrating to Nancheng University in the twenty-first century as two ordinary seniors.

Jiang Yu'an lost all his cultivation, but could still see the threads of karma between people: who owed whom, and who had taken whose life.

Su Nianwan lost all her magic, but could still see the red threads of matrimony between people: who was destined to be together, and who was deceiving whom in love.

From a graduate school slot stolen from a senior to workplace favoritism after graduation; from a leaking pipe in a rented apartment to a wedding hijacked by a runaway bride; from bullying by rich kids on campus to the crushing power of social elites, they use two invisible blades, karma and matrimony, to cut open the darkness of this world, one strike at a time.

Every time Jiang Yu'an changes a thread of karma, he loses a memory.

Every time Su Nianwan ties a red thread, she loses three days of her life.

And the red thread of matrimony they tied three hundred years ago binds the secret behind their journey to the modern world to one and the same chain of karma.

Jiang Yu'an, formerly the Dao Lord of Karma, is 24 after transmigrating and a senior in the philosophy department at Nancheng University.

He can see the threads of good and evil karma, white for good and black for evil. He can sever evil karma or reconnect good karma, at the cost of random memory loss. He seems laid-back and indifferent, but is actually meticulous. He likes to read in a quiet corner of the library, and his classmates call him the "invisible top student."

Su Nianwan, formerly the Saintess of Matrimony, is 23 after transmigrating and a senior in the sociology department at Nancheng University.

She can see the red threads of destined and ill-fated relationships: red for true matches, black for ill-fated ties, and gray for unclaimed threads. She can tie new threads or sever ill-fated ones...
