A Little Jiangshi Leads the Court’s Nobles on a Refugee Trek

The Great Chu Dynasty was nearing its end. Years of drought and locust plagues had left the people starving, while corrupt officials seized power.

Jiang Jiang was a little zombie who had slept in an ancient tomb for three hundred years, until an earthquake shook her out of the ground.

With her pale, round face and tiny fangs, she bounced along as she walked, looking completely harmless.

She was bound to a “Anything Can Be Pawned” Pawn System, which let her pawn anything she got her hands on in exchange for goods of equal value.

All she wanted was to find somewhere to sleep. Instead, she somehow ended up being taken in by the Jiang family, refugees fleeing disaster, who mistook her for their missing little girl.

And so began the nightmare of the entire Great Chu court.

Secret agents come to assassinate her? Pawn their weapons for thirty pounds of sweet potatoes!

Rebels come to surround and attack her? Pawn their armor for two carts of medicine!

The emperor sends an envoy to seize her? Pawn his jade token for a fine golden-thread nanmu coffin!

Clutching a broken wooden sword and yawning, Jiang Jiang “physically exorcised” every enemy who came after her.

The court’s nobles were beaten into submission, pawned into poverty, then recruited. Before they knew it, they were fleeing with the Jiang family and building a whole new golden age.

A former emperor, plucked bald by Jiang Jiang, squatted in a field pulling weeds and sighed at the sky. “My empire was pawned away by a zombie.”

Jiang Jiang crunched on sunflower seeds and corrected him. “It wasn’t pawning. It was an equal exchange. Fair and reasonable.”

The nobles shuddered. “...Reasonable, my foot!”
