Reborn in the 1970s: The Leisurely Life of Fishing on an Island

[Period setting + beachcombing + daily life + underwater treasure hunting + no villainous characters + slow-burn farming life]

Marine biologist Lin Chuxia accidentally drowns. When she opens her eyes again, she has become a village girl in a production brigade on a remote South China Sea island in the 1970s.

Her family has nothing. There’s no rice in the pot, and she doesn’t even have a single small coin to buy salt.

Luckily, the island is surrounded by sea. What are hard times for everyone else are a treasure trove to Lin Chuxia.

There’s no fantasy System or immortal cultivation space, just her excellent swimming skills and extensive knowledge of marine life.

At low tide, she takes a broken bamboo basket to the beach to scrape off oysters, pick up big green crabs, and dig for fat sea worms, then cooks a pot of seafood dumpling soup so delicious it’ll make your eyebrows tingle.

At high tide, she dives into the shallows on the strength of her incredible lung capacity. She not only gathers wild giant abalone, but also finds blue-and-white porcelain shards buried in the seabed, relics from a shipwreck hundreds of years ago.

She saves up seafood, trades it for ration coupons, and heads to the supply cooperative for fragrant clam oil and fashionable polyester fabric. Through her own hard work, she buys the village’s first Flying Pigeon bicycle and Seagull camera.

The taciturn former army officer next door watches the young woman spend every day in the sea, then silently offers her his military coat. “The water’s cold. Come up and have some malted milk.”

There are no dramatic highs and lows, no scheming and intrigue, just the laid-back life of beachcombing and treasure hunting in the sea breeze of the 1970s.
