[Urban Tycoon] [County-Town Business] [System Rebates] [Spending Restrictions] [Lighthearted Comedy] [Dark Humor] [Hometown on the Rise] [Population Returns] [Face-Slapping Satisfaction] [Small-Town Social Ties] [Industrial Upgrading]
Chi Ye is laid off by a major tech company and returns to his hometown, Heming County, with a body full of ailments. He plans to lie flat for a couple of days, but instead gets bound to a rather unusual “County God of Wealth System.” Every day at midnight, he receives ten million yuan, but he can only spend it within Heming County. Any money left unspent by the end of the day, and the System randomly takes away one of his basic abilities. Even more absurdly, the more permanent residents the county has, the more money he receives the next day. The faster the population drains away, the more he feels like a God of Wealth forced to clock in.
To avoid becoming a rich man who can't even walk, Chi Ye starts spending: he visits bathhouses to research employment, buys an unfinished shopping mall and turns it into a canteen for young people, uses a fleet of luxury cars to deliver documents and speed through procedures, converts a bankrupt factory into a well-paid workshop with an on-site daycare, and lures migrant workers back home with outrageous benefits. Other people attract businesses with policy incentives. His pitch is simple: “Come to Heming County. Wages paid monthly, I’ll cover the rent, and I’ll take care of your kids.” The locals laugh and call him crazy, outside investors accuse him of disrupting the market, and local officials beg him to stop launching a new project every day. But when he manages to build industries, jobs, foot traffic, and trending topics out of a failing county, the whole country realizes that Chi Ye isn't squandering his money. In the most absurd way imaginable, he's turning Heming County into the internet's most unreasonable utopia of wealth.
