Famine in the Sixties: I Feed Three Female Educated Youths by Hunting

During the devastating snow famine of 1960, Lu Chen's biased mother took all his compensation money. With a single paper splitting up the family, she cast him out to a tumbledown shack halfway up the mountain. With no food or warm clothes in the bitter winter, he was on the verge of freezing to death.

Outside, three displaced female educated youths huddled in the snow. The village bully had withheld their food rations, and they were on the brink of death. At this desperate moment, the Everything Drop-Rate System appeared, making modern supplies randomly drop when he hunted or gathered herbs.

Hunting a wild rabbit yielded pork belly, rice, flour, and snacks. Digging up wild ginseng brought him cotton clothes, cash, and household goods. Lu Chen renovated the wooden shack into a cold-proof fortress. A fire burned constantly in the stove, and every day he had meat stew and hotpot, with as much rice and white flour as he could eat.

The village below was so hungry that people gnawed on tree bark, while neighbors and awful relatives fought over moldy sweet potatoes. Certain Lu Chen had long since been buried in the barren mountains, a crowd of relatives braved the snow to beg for food. The moment they opened the door, the rich aroma of meat left them stunned.

Staring at the piles of grain and meat filling the house, the relatives who had once treated him so cruelly fell to their knees and begged for food. Lu Chen held his bowl of meat soup and coldly refused: “When you threw me out, why didn't you think to leave me even a mouthful of food?”
