The rear house in Courtyard No. 3, Huaiyin Alley, had stood empty for ten years. Then one rainy night, its lights came on. The new tenant was Xia Chenyuan, the mortal enemy Xue Qiyi had hated for five years. Five years ago, Xue Qiyi's mentor died in the line of duty during an arrest operation. The one who leaked the information was Xia Chenyuan, his most trusted partner.

Now, a bizarre murder case brings the two men together again. Among the victim's belongings is a brass matchbox engraved with the name of Xia Chenyuan's mother. Xue Qiyi wants to solve the case, while Xia Chenyuan wants to uncover the cause of his mother's death. The two secretly join forces in the courtyard house: in public, they are sworn enemies who can't stand each other; in private, they are partners sharing secrets.

The truth they uncover is far more cruel than either expected. And waiting at the end of this road is someone neither of them can turn away from.
