A Collection of Folk Ghost Stories from Guangdong

The ghosts you think you see are unsolved cases. The stories you think you hear are debts left unpaid.

Lin Qi, a PhD in folklore, receives an anonymous manuscript titled "A Collection of Folk Ghost Stories from Guangdong".

When he opens the first page, he discovers that these are no made-up tales:

The oil-paper umbrella from Guangchanglong: open it, and someone disappears;

The steps at Yongfang Hall: at three in the morning, they can never be counted correctly;

Eight coffins beneath Liwan Plaza: there are no bodies inside, only the words “Help” written in blood.

Behind every ghost story lies a real unsolved case.

And every one of these cases points to the same name: a secret buried for nearly a hundred years.

A key is hidden inside the oil-paper umbrella. Six verdicts are written on six doors. Deep in the arcades, someone has waited for eighty years for a person unafraid of ghosts to uncover the truth.

Lin Qi follows the manuscript’s clues, investigating the cases one by one. The closer he gets to the truth, the closer the “ghost” gets to him.

Until one day, that oil-paper umbrella appears outside his front door.

More frightening than ghosts are the hearts of men. More inscrutable than the human heart is karma.
