A Hundred Battles, Never Dead: I Level Up to Martial Saint in Northern Wei

At fifteen, I took up my father's ring-pommeled saber and became a shield-and-saber soldier at a Northern Wei border garrison.

I thought the greatest grudge of my life was against the Rouran, who had killed my father and slaughtered my village.

That was until I lived through the Six Garrisons Rebellion, the Heyin Incident, the wars between Eastern and Western Wei, Northern Zhou's suppression of Buddhism, the unification under the Sui, and the founding of the Tang...

Until the saber in my hand went from killing Rouran to killing rebels, then to killing "our own," and finally to not knowing who I should kill.

Until I lived to be a hundred and became a veteran of three dynasties, yet remained a soldier.

Because I was bound to the Hundred Battles System.

With every battle I fought, I grew stronger, and my life grew longer.

Sword and shield, bow and horse, spear and lance, twin hammers, unconventional weapons, naval warfare, mountain warfare, jungle warfare, street fighting...

For a hundred years, I mastered every kind of combat known to man and traveled every battlefield in China. After a century, I finally understood:

This System was the collective will of those who had died in battle over the past five hundred years.

They chose me not to make me invincible, but to have me ask a question on their behalf:

"When will the fighting finally end?"

In the first year of Wude, at Qianshui Plain.

Facing Xue Ju's army of a hundred thousand, I, now 115 years old, let go of my saber.

A hundred thousand weapons fell to the ground at once.

I turned to Li Shimin and said, "Your Highness, the war is over."

This time, it really was over.
