Synopsis:
In the third year of the apocalypse, Lu Chen is still one of the lowest-ranked survivors in this dead city. While other Awakened wield power by devouring crystal cores, he is still risking his life for half a moldy loaf of bread. He has no awakening System, so no matter how many zombies he kills, he cannot absorb a speck of energy.
Everyone calls him useless.
That is, until an S-rank zombie king corners him and, on the brink of death, he personally cuts open its head. Three dark golden crystal cores burn in his palm, and at last, those blood-red words appear on his retina, three years late:
“Devourable gene chain detected. Host aptitude assessment: SSS-rank.”
“System prompt: It’s not that you can’t awaken. You’re just a picky eater.”
From that day on, every zombie in the world becomes a dish on his menu.
And the mysterious woman who pursued him all the way from the Eastern Base suddenly stops attacking after he devours his first S-rank crystal core. She narrows her eyes, watching the mutated energy surge through him. “The zombie king you ate was my prey for three years. We’ll settle this score in due time.”
