My Dad Is Sun Wukong

Three hundred years ago, the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, Sun Wukong, battled across the firmament, obtained the scriptures, and became a Buddha.

Three hundred years later, demons from beyond the realms invaded. The Three Pure Ones turned themselves into a heavenly barrier, guarding the edge of the world.

Today, it was Sun Wukong’s turn to take up his post at the barrier.

Before leaving, he looked at his seventeen-year-old son, Sun Yu.

The boy was born with divine strength, yet so hopelessly inept he couldn’t even stay seated on a somersault cloud; brilliant beyond compare, yet he had learned only the barest traces of the Seventy-Two Transformations; kindhearted, yet so lawless he dared steal the Queen Mother’s peaches to feed the horses.

Sun Wukong thought it over for three days and nights, then finally decided to kick him down the mountain and send him to the mortal realm

“Get down to the mortal realm, and don’t disgrace your old man.”
