Jian Yan grew up in a modest, comfortable family. Inspired by her father's stories, she vowed to become a narcotics police officer when she came of age. Unwilling to surrender to fate or let go of her hatred, she chose to give up everything in Beiyuan and go undercover, applying to infiltrate the mainland.

For seven years, she lived by the blade's edge, but failed to take down the entire organization. Instead, she lost everything with the man she had once loved. After three years spent barely existing, neither alive nor dead, a twist of fate led her to travel to South Korea at the request of the city bureau chief. There she joined Gu Lan and Wen Xu to form an uneasy trio. In Seoul, a city that held only one fleeting memory of snow and wind for her, she saw once again the eyes that filled her with sorrow.
