In 1927, warlords battle and undercurrents roil through the martial world.
Lu Jingming, young master of an antique-dealing family in Suzhou, has fallen on hard times and must pawn the family estate to get by. His father vanished under mysterious circumstances three years ago after going to western Hunan on an "inspection."
To an outsider, the family heirloom, a fragmentary book called "The Outer Canon of the Green Satchel", is just a few scraps of old paper. Yet it draws the attention of Zhou Banxian, a scruffy old man dressed in rags. He turns out to be an heir to the Guanshan tradition, and the manuscript is a record of ley lines left behind by the ancient Guanshan lineage. It marks nine locations where treasure lies and secretly records the ritual vessels, texts, formulas, and gold buried during the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties.
The journey opens with corpse-driving in western Hunan, then winds through Miaojiang Gu poison, Sichuan hanging coffins, northern desert seas, East China Sea islands, Lingnan miasma forests, northern frontier snowscapes, and imperial tombs of the Central Plains, all the way to the final hidden treasure deep in the Kunlun Mountains...
The subject matter is interesting, but I can't understand what it's about. The writing style is good, at least better than many authors on the same subject, but the writing style is lacking. I can't get up and down, and I feel panicked. Only four words "pretending to be mysterious" flash in my mind.
