Island Whale Lord: A Little One and Sea Beasts Guard the Nation

In the South China Sea in 1980, typhoons, hidden reefs, smuggling ships, and unidentified submarines made Qingjiao Island the most dangerous frontline of coastal defense.

Gu Chenzhou, an ace in the Marine Corps, lost his one-year-old daughter, Duoduo, while evacuating people during a typhoon four years ago.

His wife drowned in the waves trying to save their child, and their daughter was swept into the eye of the storm, her fate unknown.

Ever since, Gu Chenzhou has carried a lifetime of guilt. He volunteered to serve on Qingjiao Island, patrolling the sea every day, hoping for a miracle that seemed all but impossible.

But Duoduo was alive.

An injured orca had carried her to an uninhabited reef, and pods of dolphins took turns bringing her food.

A few years later, the little girl had become the sea’s “Whale Princess,” able to understand whale songs, turtle speech, and seabird signals.

She rode the orca “Obsidian” through stormy seas, ordered seagulls to keep watch, had crabs cut smugglers’ ropes, and frightened enemies into leaping overboard in the dead of night with sea snakes.

Four years later, a foreign spy organization returned. During the typhoon years ago, they had stolen half of the coastal defense deployment map. Now they wanted the other half and planned to smuggle the latest sonar data out of the country.

Gu Chenzhou was ordered to investigate, only to discover that this stretch of sea was becoming more and more “unreasonable.”
