On the day he turns eighteen, Qi Ye is judged to be “unawakened.”
The whole school laughs at him as a good-for-nothing. Countless people complain that he’s holding them back and wasting a special admission slot.
Qi Ye yawns, covers his face with his textbook, and goes back to sleep.
Nobody knows that two ancient divine embers live inside him: Yinglong, the primordial ancestral dragon, and Qiongqi, the savage beast of the Abyssal Prison. They are twin S-rank awakenings, and they have both been awake since he was eight.
He’s exhausted every day, not because he’s lazy, but because one body is bearing the strain of two people.
He never explains himself, and he never reveals his trump cards.
Later, on the snowy plains of the Northern Frontier, Qi Ze, the illegitimate son of the Qi family, steps through the snow and points at him as he curses:
“If you haven’t awakened, you have no right to inherit. The Qi family has no use for a good-for-nothing.”
Then, deep within a secret realm, his teammates are surrounded by Void Beasts with nowhere to run.
Qi Ye opens his eyes, draws a gleaming white longsword, and turns to make a “shh” gesture at his teammates.
“Keep it a secret. This is my trump card.”
Someone asks why he kept it hidden until now.
He thinks for a moment, then answers seriously, “My mom said to save your trump cards for the New Year.”
This is the story of someone the whole world considers a good-for-nothing, who gradually breaks through layer upon layer of seals and makes everyone shut up.
A seemingly lazy and carefree, yet perceptive and patient young man leads a group of equally brilliant companions, each carrying their own past, to fight their way toward a future on the eve of the apocalypse, as the Void descends.
And at the end of that road, his younger brother stands in the Void, eyes curving into a smile.
