Rule Horror: This Player Is Anything but Proper

Ning Le, 26, unemployed. His greatest ambition in life is to lie around doing nothing. After dying suddenly, he's dragged into the [Natural Disaster Game], a hellish arena that torments players with rules and catastrophes. Other players: Trembling as they memorize the rules, they worship the System as a god. Ning Le: He yawns, treats the rules like scrap paper, and starts editing them. [System: Running is prohibited. Violators will be eliminated.] Ning Le changes “running” to “dancing,” then saunters right through. [System: You must not open your eyes after midnight.] Ning Le tapes his eyelids shut. “I didn't open them. They opened by themselves.” [System: ...What exactly do you want?] Ning Le: “Nothing. I just think your game has a few too many bugs.” Later, a higher-dimensional being steps in personally and asks him what gives him the right to break the rules. Ning Le smiles. “Because you make the rules, but I decide how to play.”
