Starting with Emperor Yao, Emperors and Empresses of Every Dynasty Live in My Neighborhood

Lighthearted comedy · Rule-based horror · Historical what-ifs · Everyday humor · A chronicle of civilizational migration

This book wears the guise of a historical transmigration story, but at its heart it is a “property-management duty log” that begins with Yao, Shun, and Yu, then unfolds in order along the path of civilization. It doesn’t write about emperors’ achievements in governing or warfare. It writes about how they follow the river of time, drifting one after another from upstream to the entrance of Anju Court, while the light in the duty room has been on for a long, long time.

Open the book, and you’ll see Yao’s cautious first attempt to use an access card, the knowing silence when Shun runs into Yu in the hallway, the delicate situation of Jie of Xia and Tang of Shang living on the same floor but never eating together, and the solemn care with which King Wen, King Wu, and the Duke of Zhou puzzle over the wording of the community rules in that little room.

Each chapter marks a step forward in civilization. The people who arrived in the previous chapter are still figuring out how to turn off the hallway lights; in the next, new arrivals are already carrying their luggage through the entrance. And the register in the duty room grows thicker page by page, starting with Yao’s name, until in the end it is more complete than any history book.
