Silk of Bianliang

A portrait of a woman’s growth in the prosperous Northern Song dynasty.

She makes her way among the common folk, plots for survival in a grand household, breaks deadlocks with clever ideas, and conceals affection behind the scepter.

Lin Feipeng, a young embroiderer from Bianliang, is divorced and starts from an abandoned dye house. With her mastery of plant-based dyeing, she wins her way into the imperial textile workshops. Amid political reforms and family rivalries, she builds a kingdom of her own.

The merchant’s way is the way of humanity; weaving brocade is also a way of weaving hearts.

This is not a tale of a woman rising to power through a man. It is the story of a woman relying on herself, her craft, and a group of women to weave out a world of their own in a world ruled by men.
