In Luoshui Town, the Shen family's geomancy shop follows an unwritten rule: no customers after sunset, and no feng shui readings on rainy days.
One rainy night, a dying man bursts through the shop's door, bringing Shen Du's grandfather's compass and a torn scrap of paper bearing the words "Dragon's Eye." No one knows where the man came from. He carries black mud found only deep beneath the earth, and his fingernails conceal inscrutable secrets.
This is the beginning of the breaking of a promise kept for 721 years.
Living characters sprout across Grandfather's notes, urging him one by one: "Return."
Shen Du is the only geomancer of his generation in the Shen family. He guards his ancestors' oath concerning the Celestial Secrets Diagram, an ancient jade artifact capable of reversing life and death that binds the lifelines of five clans together. He thought he would spend his whole life in Luoshui Town, reading house sites and graves for a few taels of silver, until that one word in the notes yanks him out of his peaceful life and sends him toward the western mountain ridge.
Once the secrets of the five clans are touched, there is no turning back.
