Marshal, Don't Grip My Waist: The Paper Doll Double Has Returned to Life in a Corpse

During the Lantern Festival, the Governor’s residence was brightly lit and decked out in festive decorations. The newly risen warlord Fu Mingzheng was holding a private opera performance for his new “canary.”

Rumor had it that the canary’s face bore a slight resemblance to his first love, Ruan Yunxiu, the one he had lost amid the chaos of war.

But no one knew that the celebrated actress onstage, dressed in red with flowing sleeves and breathtakingly beautiful, was Ruan Yunxiu herself, returned from the depths of the underworld.

Back then, Fu Mingzheng had abandoned her in a besieged city for the sake of military power. She was condemned by everyone and died in the snow. Now she had returned with a ledger of the dead in hand, ready to watch coldly as the arrogant man lost his mind.

After the performance, backstage was dim. Fu Mingzheng held a cigar between his lips and pinned her against the dressing table. His prayer beads dug into her pale neck, and his eyes were as greedy and sinister as a wolf’s. “Pretending not to know me, Marshal? That voice and that face... no one but Xiuxiu could imitate them.”

Ruan Yunxiu merely slipped her icy fingers inside his uniform. With a smile both tragic and uncanny, she leaned close and whispered coldly in his ear:

“Marshal Fu, you’ve got the wrong person... Sister Yunxiu was killed by your own hand ten years ago.”

That night, the living Yama, renowned across nine provinces, knelt outside her bed with bloodshot eyes until dawn.
