Su Chen was sent to an unnamed mountain range due to a System malfunction, where he awakened the Master’s Merit System. The System told him this was a very dangerous world, and that an ordinary mortal like him would surely die if he went out. To stay alive, Su Chen had no choice but to keep his head down and complete the System’s daily tasks: growing plants, raising flowers, practicing calligraphy, painting, writing stories, making things up, and more.
Until one day, two monkeys, battered and wounded by lightning, collapsed at the entrance to his little courtyard.
The System prompted him that they were ordinary little monkeys and could be taken on as disciples.
To complete the task, Su Chen accepted the little monkeys as disciples, taught them to read and write, and passed on the cultivation technique Ninefold Heavenly Art.
He took a female ghost as a disciple, taught her the Lunar Heavenly Scripture, and bestowed upon her a Lunar Divine Body.
He took two wild bulls as disciples, teaching one the Savage Bull Devours the Heavens Art and the other the Primordial Divine Bull True Form.
The protagonist finds it strange that all the cultivation techniques provided by the System come from novels he read before transmigrating. At first, he uses them to figure out what world he is in.
Then one day, the gods and Buddhas fill the skies, and heavenly soldiers and generals appear before him. Only then does he realize he’s in the freaking world of Journey to the West, and all his disciples have become major villains.
