Sun Wukong waited five hundred years for someone destined to remove the talisman sealing him beneath the mountain.
It wasn't Tang Sanzang, the handsome monk riding a white horse, but an old man carrying a pickaxe, whose mind was set on digging through mountains to open a road: Yu Gong.
To repay his kindness, the Great Sage Equal to Heaven decided: Forget about fetching the scriptures. He'd spend a few years helping the old man dig through mountains first!
Tang Sanzang, standing nearby, was dumbfounded. "Wait, where's my first disciple? Where's my mighty disciple with all those magical powers?"
Yu Gong: "Are there many mountains on your journey to the West?"
Tang Sanzang: "...Yes."
Yu Gong: "Is Spirit Mountain big?"
Tang Sanzang: "...It is."
Yu Gong's eyes lit up. "Perfect! We're headed the same way. You fetch your scriptures, and I'll dig my mountains."
Next stop: Spirit Mountain. The mountain gate is in danger!
