Journey to the West Begins After the Investiture of the Gods

In the final years of the Investiture of the Gods, the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation was shattered, and the Chan Sect fell into decline. Before leaving for the Purple Cloud Palace, the Lord of Heaven’s Teaching sealed his only direct disciple, Xuan Ming, in a void illusion deep beneath Golden Turtle Island. “When you attain the Great Luo realm, the Chan Sect will once more see the light of day.” Time passed, and the world changed beyond recognition. When Xuan Ming awoke from his long dream, the mortal world was in the final years of the Sui dynasty and the beginning of the Tang. The once-glorious Jade Void Palace lay in ruins. The ten thousand immortals of the Chan Sect had either perished or been enshrined among the gods, and the Primordial Continent had broken into the Four Great Continents. Just as Xuan Ming stood bewildered, the accompanying spiritual treasure of his master, the Green Duckweed Sword, in hand, a cold voice rang out: [Ding! Host has been detected breaking through to the Great Luo Golden Immortal realm!] [The Great Dao Obstructing Journey to the West System has been activated!] [Main quest: Delay the Journey to the West calamity indefinitely!] [Rule One: You must not personally kill Tang Sanzang (Jin Chanzi). Violation means death.] [Rule Two: Small details may change, but the big picture must remain. Tang Sanzang must reach Spirit Mountain, but you can make every step an ordeal.] [Rewards: The longer you delay things, the more astonishing the rewards!] Xuan Ming looked at the sword in his hand, then at the increasingly brilliant Buddha-light in the west. A cold smile curled his lips. “Back then, during the Investiture of the Gods, you schemed against my Chan Sect and severed our legacy.” “And now, on this Journey to the West, you still want to use Tang Sanzang’s body to suppress the fortune of the East?” “Dream on!”
