She Left Before Summer

On their wedding day, the whole city laughed at her for marrying above her station.

Lu Yuzhou was the third young master of the Lu family, a ruler of the business world: aloof, distinguished, and never interested in women. Everyone was waiting to laugh when Cinderella got thrown out.

But Lu Yuzhou spoiled her like she was the most precious person in the world.

When she wanted sugar-roasted chestnuts, he drove across half the city in the middle of the night to buy them. When she was afraid of thunder, he dropped an international conference and rushed home. When she had a fever and started babbling, he stayed by her bed for two full days and nights, his eyes bloodshot, refusing to close them.

He said, “For the rest of my life, I'm at Xia Nanxi's mercy.”

She thought it would last forever.

Until one day, she looked at his face and smiled politely. “Hello. May I ask who you are?”

Early-onset Alzheimer's. Irreversible. Incurable. Only five years left.

From that day on, he told her “I love you” a hundred times every day, wrote their story in a diary, and read it to her over and over. No matter how many times she forgot, he told her again.

But she kept disappearing, little by little.

In the end, she forgot everyone and remembered only three characters: “Lu Yuzhou.”

She didn't know whose name it was.

She just murmured it unconsciously, like a child who couldn't find home, repeating an address over and over.

The day she left, summer had not yet ended. She touched his face and said, “You've lost weight.”

She was twenty-eight that year.

He spent three years writing their story into a book. On the final page, he wrote: “In our next life, I'll be your mind. Whatever you forget, I'll remember for you. Just don't forget me.”
