In another world where yin and yang have fallen out of balance, demons and monsters run rampant, while powerful cultivators have become greedy landlords who exploit the poor. Luan Yang, once a beggar from humble origins, is nearly swallowed by an evil ghost in a mass grave when he unexpectedly awakens a “dilapidated City God temple” hidden within a faded mark between his brows. Inside is a special space where time passes extremely slowly, awaiting restoration. By completing tasks such as helping spirits move on and suppressing evil ghosts, he gradually unlocks the buildings and offices of the underworld, including the Gate of Ghosts, the Bridge of Helplessness, and the Hall of Yama. With help from his many confidantes, Luan Yang uses his mortal body to stand against all manner of corrupted cultivators, suppressed by the Heavenly Dao, and evil cultivators who cheat their way to power. As the underworld’s system takes shape, he uses the City God’s aspect, ghost soldiers, and ghost generals to outwit and crush his enemies. In the end, he avenges himself and restores the cycle of life and death, rising from a beggar anyone could bully to the supreme Yama who commands life and death in another world.
