Luan Yang, the Knife Seller on Credit

On the night of the seventh day after someone dies, never turn off the lights! Because your dead relatives may be standing outside your door, waiting for you to let them in. There’s an old saying in the Northeast: on the seventh night, the dead return, and the gates of the underworld swing wide open. The old master of the Lin family had only just passed away when a strange man selling kitchen knives blocked their doorway and claimed the evil spirits haunting their home were a hundred times worse than anyone else’s. The family didn’t believe him. Then, at midnight, the ever-burning lamp inside the house suddenly went out. A scraping sound came from outside the window, as if fingernails were clawing at the glass, and the static-filled television showed the face of a butcher! A century of killing had created a storm of resentment, and even the household guardian spirit had become a death warrant, fed on the blood of the living! When the whole family was trapped inside the haunted house, the knife seller appeared again. “I’ll let your family borrow this knife to slay ghosts. When all is calm again, I’ll come back for it.”
