Shen Qingci is a feng shui master.
The first time they meet, Fu Zhaoye points a gun at her. “Keep spreading feudal superstition and I’ll take you to the station.”
Shen Qingci studies his face. “Your brow is darkened. You’re bound to suffer a bloody disaster within three days.”
Three days later, Fu Zhaoye, covered in blood, knocks on Shen Qingci’s door.
From then on, this wealthy-family detective who doesn’t believe in the supernatural starts showing up at Shen Qingci’s studio again and again.
Investigating cases, making arrests, getting injured, having his wounds bandaged: his excuses grow increasingly flimsy.
He says, “I need your help solving cases.”
She says, “You need me to ward off disaster for you, don’t you?”
Later, he admits, “I need you.”
After they marry, they have a daughter, nicknamed Tangtang.
When Tangtang is three, she points to a corner of the house and says, “Mom, there’s a grandpa standing over there.”
Shen Qingci can’t see anything.
But Tangtang adds, “Grandpa says he’s the owner of this house. He wants you to help him find his grandson.”
Only then does Shen Qingci realize: the child she gave birth to can see ghosts.
