This was Lin Chen’s first solo night patrol as a newly hired attendant at Qingshan Psychiatric Hospital.
Room 308 was at the end of the corridor.
Lin Chen gripped the doorknob, pausing as he pushed the door open.
A gaunt young man was curled up in the corner of the room. His name was Chen Mo, and his admission file said he had once been a history student.
“The door’s open… The door’s open…”
Chen Mo buried his face in his knees and kept forcing those three words from his throat, his voice hoarse and indistinct.
Lin Chen stepped closer, the beam of his flashlight falling on the wall behind Chen Mo.
A strange symbol had been scratched into the once-white wall with fingernails. It was a wildly irregular circle with a deep black dot at its center, resembling an eye filled with malice.
Lin Chen stared at the symbol, cold sweat breaking out across his back. The feeling was so real, it was as if the eye on the wall were looking right back at him.
“Senior, I’ve finished checking Building 3. The incident reports are all here.” Lin Chen stepped forward and placed the work log on the desk.
Lin Qiye didn’t look at the log or turn around. Still gazing out the window, he said quietly,
“The moon is too bright tonight.”
Lin Chen froze for a moment. He followed Lin Qiye’s gaze and looked outside.
The pitch-black sky was blanketed in thick, heavy clouds. There was no moon at all.
