Lin Ye, a young man from an urban village, makes a living running errands for a watch-repair shop. His life is poor but peaceful, until an old brass mirror he finds shatters that calm. Its surface reflects a dark forest that does not belong to him and a monster's three-fingered hand. Amid the landlord's demands for higher rent, the eerie sight of the old woman across the hall walking backward sends an even deeper chill through him.
A watch-delivery job draws him into an even deeper fog. The villa of a mysterious client known as "Old Clock" contains a mural of the same dark forest as the one in the mirror, a strange watch with two hands that jump on their own, a watch-shop owner with a bloody mark around his neck, and a three-fingered wraith knocking at the door in the dead of night... Every clue points to the half-moon-shaped jade pendant on his chest, and to a forgotten past.
"The Three-Fingered Man has been looking for you for three years." The black-robed elder's words cling to him like a curse. When the watch-shop owner dies in a grotesque pose and the prophecy of a blood moon leaves bloody marks on the calendar, Lin Ye finally understands: the crescent-shaped scar on his chest and the half-pendant he wears close to his body have long bound him to the mystery of his mother's abandonment of him fifteen years ago, and to the three-fingered presence deep in the dark forest.
As he heads west to find the other half of the pendant, he must evade the three-fingered specter closing in at every step, unravel the secrets behind "Old Clock" and the backward-walking old woman, and face a third shadow that keeps appearing in the mirror, one that belongs to him. It may be the true identity he dares not confront. When the blood moon rises and the three fingers come together, the boy whose door fate has come knocking on will finally tear open the answer that belongs to him, caught between humanity and the uncanny.
