He Keeps Me in the Palm of His Hand

When Shen Heng was fourteen, an imperial decree at a palace banquet arranged for her older sister to marry Gu, the powerful heir whose influence reached across the court. She was happy for her sister, thinking he was so handsome, like an immortal from the heavens. But she didn’t know that from the very beginning, she was the one he wanted.

On the night of the coup, her sister was framed and forced into the palace.

Her family forced Shen Heng to take her place and marry into the Gu household.

On their wedding night, the nuptial wine was switched for an aphrodisiac. She hated him to the bone, yet her body arched beneath him against her will. He kissed away the tears at the corners of her eyes and whispered in her ear, “You can only be mine.”

Her heart belonged to someone else, yet her family held her captive, and her husband kept her imprisoned in the palm of his hand. She tried everything to escape, but couldn’t break free of the web he had woven from tenderness and desire.

He said, “I want your heart.”

She said, “I lost it long ago.”

He pinned her against the desk. “Then we’ll find it.”

He taught her the things in the erotic manuals, forcing her to surrender herself completely.

Little by little, she sank into hatred and shame, until she realized that this domineering man had long since made her a part of his life.

He imprisoned her, but protected her, too. He spent half a lifetime scheming for power, all to win her willing devotion for the rest of her life.
