After Passing the Imperial Exam in the 1970s, the Cold-Faced Officer Begged Me to Take Him Back

On a stormy night, Lin Wan accidentally barged into the room of the cold-faced regimental commander Lu Chenzhou while trying to get a recommendation letter for the college entrance exam. Soaked through, she was branded “ill-behaved.” Then her mother schemed against her, forcing her to marry him.

After the wedding, Lu Chenzhou bought her books and helped pave her way, but remained cold and distant. Lin Wan buried herself in her studies, thinking, I’ll divorce him as soon as I get into college.

When the exam results came out, she was the top scorer in the province. Holding her Peking University acceptance letter, she handed him the divorce agreement. “Commander Lu, we’re even now.”

For the first time, Lu Chenzhou’s eyes reddened as he grabbed her hand. “I don’t agree.”

She smiled coolly. “Military marriages can’t end in divorce? Then I’ll ask a provincial reporter to weigh in. Should the top scorer of the new era be commended for escaping a marriage she never wanted?”

Later, everyone in the military district knew that Commander Lu had chased his wife all the way to Peking University.

But there he saw his former wife walking by Weiming Lake beside a scholar returned from abroad.

The man held an umbrella over her and smiled warmly. “Lin Wan, welcome to a new world.”

And he stood in the rain, watching the woman he had pushed away with his own hands shine brilliantly at someone else’s side.

At last, he understood:

Some people, once lost, are gone for a lifetime.
