I Became a Dog After Death and Traveled Across China

[Animal protagonist] [Heartwarming] [Slow travel] [Everyday life] [Personal growth]

Niangao is a Chinese village dog.

She has yellow fur, short legs, and a tuft of white hair on her forehead that looks like a piece of niangao, or sticky rice cake.

No one knows that in her previous life, she was an emergency-room nurse. Her phone held a list of over a hundred places she wanted to visit, but she never made it to a single one.

No one knows she promised a dying old man that she would see the mountains and rivers of their homeland for him.

Now she has been reborn, setting out from a market in Guangzhou

using her nose to discover the scents of every city and her paws to tread every unfamiliar road.

In her previous life, she fought to save other people's lives. In this one, she wants to live for herself.

“Woof.” (Translation: It's my turn this time.)
