Are You Crazy? A Western Medicine PhD Returns to His County to Open a Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic

“There's nothing modern medicine can do for your mother.”

After making three calls, his mentor got the same answer from three leading heart centers: Fuwai Hospital in Beijing, Zhongshan Hospital in Shanghai, and Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital in Guangzhou.

In his previous life, he refused to believe it.

The youngest attending physician at the Provincial People's Hospital, a doctoral graduate of an eight-year medical program, with three SCI papers to his name, he personally handed his mother one dubious folk remedy after another. Sixty grams of aconite sent her creatinine soaring from 280 to 800.

Using his own medical knowledge, he killed his mother with his own hands.

Then he knelt at every temple in Changxiang, refusing food and water, until he knelt his way into the grave himself.

When he opened his eyes again, it was 2021.

His phone lit up with an incoming call: Mom.

“Yutuo, are you free to come home this weekend? Your mom misses you a little.”

Something loosened in the eyes that hadn't shed a tear in three years.

His mother was still alive. Before her diagnosis. There were still three months.

[Deathmatch System activated. Remaining lifespan: 5 years.]

[For every patient you cure, lifespan is returned. Fail to cure a patient, and the time is deducted.]

[When it reaches zero, you die. No negotiations.]

He gave up his position at the provincial hospital and returned to a county hospital with only three internists. While everyone else climbed upward, he sank down.

It wasn't career suicide.

He had over seven hundred days of clear-minded time to earn his mother's life back.

Traditional Chinese medicine's inspection, listening, questioning, and pulse-taking, alongside evidence-based Western medicine. Every difficult case was a wager, and every prescription put his own life on the line.

This time, he wouldn't kneel to gods or Buddhas, or beg for folk remedies.

This time, he would forge the path himself.
